Another amazing read from this dynamic duo known of Tiffany and Robert Freund a.k.a Tiffany Roberts. This story was a captivating romance between a human woman named Macy falling in love with a Kraken (or Cecalelia) Wanderer known as Jax and him in return taking her as his mate.

This is yet another beautiful story of love knowing no bounds that I believe this duo captures in their books brilliantly in both writing style and description in settings as well as characters.

This is yet another beautiful story of love knowing no bounds that I believe this duo captures in their books brilliantly in both writing style and description in settings as well as characters.

This book gives you an amazing cast of characters from both the main and background characters and a lovely told story to boot. You're in no way left with the idea that this is where it should end but where it begins. You'll be left wanting to hear more about this world and it's characters.

It actually kind of reminds of Ruby Dixons Ice Barbarians series in the concept of coming upon the unknown do to unforseen circumstances and having to rely heavily on this unknown entity. The result being that love can come from out of nowhere and from the strangest places such as from land or sea and through unique meetings like having to be rescued. In this case both Macy and Jax gained each other out of the unforseen meeting. They both gained a friend and a lover that they could rely on to both protect and be there for them and are the starting bridge between their species. I can honestly say I can't wait for the next installment in this series with Arkon and Aymee.

In a futuristic time on a faraway planet resides a human colony ‘the watch’ . Everyone has their role, Macy’s is a Gardner and provides for the watch, working alongside many others to keep the colony thriving.

She feels the obligations of her life in the hardest way, from the loss of a most beloved love one and the guilt to be the prefect daughter lays heavy on her. Especially in the form of courting her friend Corbin, she has no ‘romantic feelings’ towards him but knows that he is a good man and he loves he and their ‘joining’ is much wanted by their parents.

After Corbin has planned a romantic trip at sea, Macy’s is terrifed of water, pushing her fears aside for him she decides to go. But the sea is primal thing and a terrifying storm results in her being knocked overboard.

Macy fights to stay afloat and not let the sea take her....her salvation and rescuer is jax, he is a kracken, an cephalopod/human hybrid... created by the original human settlers from earth. He and his fellow kracken live on the bottom of the ocean in a ghost filled structure made for humans by humans. He should kill her, but he doesn’t...He should hate macy, but is drawn to her and her confusing human ways.

Fantastically original is it conception and delivery, I adored this book. Macy and jax’s friendship and love developed at a wonderful pace. And holy tentacles!! There were some fantastically steam HAWT scenes in there!! ( always welcomed by me!! )

But this book is more than a ( brilliant ) fantasy romance it has an underlying message of tolerance, respect and forgiveness by not holding current generations in contempt of past crimes. If either are to survive and build any kind of future, alliances are to be made.

Macy had always loved the sea until the day it stole her sister and she vowed to remain firmly planted in the earth. When the good intentions of a friend causes her to be on the water again, her worst nightmare will come to pass. She felt the rush of the icy water, the need to give up and knew that the sea would claim her and everything went dark. Macy never expected to awaken again, let alone to find her rescuer to be anything but human.

Jax is a kraken, he has heard the horrors about those who live on land, his people had lived them, but the treasure he found in the sea was too hard to pass up. Now he possessed one of the humans, but little did he know he would find someone not unlike himself on the inside.

They were as different as night and day, she was of the land and the air, he was of the sea, but in spite of their differences, and the way they met, they forged a bond that transcended everything but love. But how do they convince their people to see beyond the fears, the past and find that same acceptance?

by Tiffany Roberts is a brilliant fantasy romance that proves that love knows no boundaries as they place two souls together, one as captive, one as captor and natural curiosity and a primal attraction breaks down the walls of their differences.

What a fabulous tale of romance! The kraken are not perfect, but they are fascinating, almost as fascinating as their history as it is unveiled. Team Tiffany Roberts has taken two “species” and broken down the barriers of resistance and small-mindedness and opened up an entirely new series to explore with their imagination. Great writing that pulls readers in from the start slowly, then hits cruising speed and never lets up! Wonderful background detail, scenes that are incredibly believable, and a new tolerance that leads to love…I cannot wait for more!

I received a complimentary ARC edition from Tiffany Roberts!

While I really enjoyed this book and look forward to future books in this new series I do have some concerns.

Let me start with the basic story, I loved it, a race of beings that were genetically engineered by ancient colonists, to be slaves are living fairly peacefully generations (centuries?) later after overthrowing their human masters makes this an almost automatic "I love that plot".

Jax upsets the balance of the human/kraken who are both living almost unknown of the others existence by rescuing Macy from certain death in a storm. The slow acceptance and evolution into a romance requires a small bit of insta-love/lust to move it along.

The story does not follow the direction you might think and there are some unexpected twists and turns which add to the readers enjoyment but there are some sex scenes that may or may not appeal to some folks since the kraken are "equipped" with all the needed equipment for sex they still have those tentacles so your mental image may vary.

Bottom Line: Aside from the mental images the reader might have the story was exceptional, the characters gripping and not cardboard cutouts but 4 Stars for seeming to overlook a few minor things that I might not have thought about if I had not been a reader of Grace Draven's "Wraith Kings" series. While it does have a small bit of Beauty & the Beast vibe it is totally unlike that story in pretty much everything other than the obvious situation. 4 Stars and maybe more but I want to read more of this world.

Fabulous read by Tiffany Roberts! Imagine getting rescued from certain death by a sexy as sin sea creature with tentacles.

Macy is a nice young woman plagued with guilt for a childhood mistake which led to the death of her sister. Convinced she must do penance, she devotes her life to the good of others and trying to please her parents at the cost of her own happiness. When she meets Jax, her world is turned upside down and she's forced to face her demons, her true desires, as well as the past of her colony she knew nothing about.

Jax breaks so many rules of his people for her but she fills the void that has isolated him from them. They truly are soulmates and I love how the relationship grows between them. I especially loved how the author addressed more serious topic through the story such as tolerance, forgiveness and the "sins of the father" where you shouldn't punish someone else for the crimes of others.

Nothing irks me more than a cliché villain whose being a dick just because your story needs the drama. So I was really happy to see Tiffany didn't fall into that trap. The characters were well-rounded and even when I didn't necessarily agree with their choices, they made sense based on their personalities and situation.

    I can't wait to read Arkon's story!!

    A Gripping Tale!

Prepare to be gripped, and I don’t just mean by Jax’s tentacles as Tiffany Roberts transports us to a fantastic new planet and a unique romance in Treasure of the Abyss. Prepare to be gripped, and I don’t just mean by Jax’s tentacles as Tiffany Roberts transports us to a fantastic new planet and a unique romance in Treasure of the Abyss. Human Macy fears the sea, though she once loved it. When deep in its depths she encounters the “alien” kraken Jax, an octopoid-humanoid creature. Her horror prompts irrational reactions and deadly actions. Jax the Wanderer is equal parts confused and compelled by Macy’s strangeness, and the evolution of this unusual couple is altogether sweet, shocking, and wonderful. Roberts’ prose demands that we turn pages like mad as both the dangers of the sea and Jax and Macy’s relationship threaten to rip them apart. The scenes beneath the waves add a haunting quality to the novel, while the ever-present threats hike the tension higher. But what about this odd couple’s coupling? As with the pair themselves, their similarities and growing love dispel any physiological disparities to bring a sweet and satisfying romance to this marvelous tale. A beautifully written story with a deeply gratifying conclusion. I look forward to again plumbing the depths in the next installment of Roberts’ Kraken series.

The wonder and terror of first contact slowly grows into friendship and then attraction leads to more. I was riveted by the blossoming relationship and captivated by the world building.

This has all the highs and lows of a relationship with some steam. The supporting characters are sparse but I care enough to hope they get their own happy endings.

So to be honest, I did not expect to like this book as much as I did.

Macy has lived her life on land, never straying to the sea after that fateful day.

Her sister had been claimed by the sea, and Macy had almost been as well.

She vowed to be better and no longer wander to the waters.

However, things change when she decides to make her joining with Camrin permanent.

He wants to show her a special place he had found while fishing one day.

Braving the waters once more, she climbs upon Camrin's boat to become his wife.

It is her duty and she has put it off for too long.

Neither expected the storm to hit or for it to wash Macy out of the boat.

What Macy definitely didn't expect was to be saved by a half-human, half-octopus creature that calls himself Jax.

    Jax has always been curious.

Always wandering away from his den and other kraken mates.

It has set him apart from the others, making them question his loyalty.

Saving a human woman in the water was just something else he wanted to investigate.

Neither expects the attraction they feel towards one another.

But soon they can no longer fight it.

Jax and Macy have to fight for their love, for their right to be together. No matter how wrong some may find it.

When I received this book, I was skeptical.

I'm a huge paranormal fan and love a good romance, but I've only recently broadened my horizon away from the usual vampire and werewolf cliche.

Seeing a story where one of the main focus is a kraken made me leery.

I am so glad I gave this story a shot though.

I didn't think I would be sucked into as much as I was.

The plot line is well thought out.

The characters have depth and the chemistry is amazing.

I can't wait to see what this series has to bring.

Will it follow Macy and Jax? Or will we see other kraken's finding mates among the humans?

If you want something completely different from anything you have read before, give this book a shot.

You may have the same reservations that I did, but you will not regret it once dive it.

I had to force myself to put my iPad down to get rest before I was finished.

It was so hard to not keep reading and forgo the sleep my body required.

I can honestly say that this story surprised me and left me wanting more.

Oh my. I didn't expect to like this book but at the end of it, I didn't want to leave the world building that Tiffany Roberts created. One of the pitfalls for writing the first book of any series is the tendency of the author to cramp everything, so much so that it left the readers feeling overwhelmed. I didn't feel any of that sort when reading this book.

Jax is a crossed between a human male and an octopus .. yes, with tentacles! Does it make for awkward love scenes? No, not at all as the authors (they are a husband and wife team) wrote the love scenes beautifully and tastefully. Not to mention it was super hot too.

What about Macy, the heroine? I really like her, she is strong and courageous. I love these two characters together.

So yes, I will be reading the 2nd book when it comes out. I cannot wait!

** a bit out of topic but something i have to shout out **

I watched Guillermo del Toro's movie "The Shape of Water" right after reading this book and oh boy, I couldn't fathom to tell you how much I love that movie. I kept thinking ... this is like Jax and Macy! My favourite part of the movie is the bathroom scene where Elisa turned her bathroom into a pool ... I don't want spoil the movie to anyone who hasn't seen it but I cried at that scene because it was so beautiful. If you haven't seen The Shape of Water ... please do! You'll realise just how much alike that movie is to this book.
