You Left me, sweets, two legacies

"love is more thicker than forget more thinner than recall more seldom than a wave is wet more frequent than to fail" (E E Cummings)Love is always kind. It is enduring. It does not bear a grudge. Love always trusts. It is never selfish. It is unbound. It is hopeful. It always defends. However, love, as we all know, is a two-sided thing; with the joy comes the pain! “The...

Reading Buried Love, make you think how abruptly a relationship could end and change a life. It does not matter if you are young or old. Love, after all, never loses its meaning.

Reading Emily Dickinson made me love her writing so much but so did Christina Rossetti and Sara Teasdale and every other poet. Once you read all fifty -one poems, you would find it hard to pick your favourite. That is how good the collection is – the author has picked best of the work of all the poets.

IN the spring I asked the daisies

    If his words were true,

    And the clever, clear-eyed daisies

[And the clever little daisies ]

    Always knew.

If I were you, I would buy this book and read a poem a day.

WHEN roses cease to bloom, dear,

    And violets are done,

    When bumble-bees in solemn flight

    Have passed beyond the sun,

And it goes on… A gem of a book, a keeper!

    A legacy of love

    A heavenly Father would content

    Had He the offer of;

You left me boundaries of pain

    Capacious as the sea,

    Between eternity and time,

    Your consciousness and me."

I really enjoyed this collection! I've been trying to read more poetry and this was an amazing way to start. Most of them were completely new to me, I'll definitely be reading more from these poets. I actually reread the collection a few times after finishing!

The book is a collection of poems emphasising on different stages of love. The author has amalgamated some of the best poetic compositions which reflect upon different shades of an immensely rich sentiment. I am an ardent poetry admirer so this is a perfect encapsulation of some of the best verses which has enabled me to develop a deep connection. This book takes me to an emotional roller coaster ride as I read between the lines. One of my favourite is Night Song At Amalfi by Sara Teasdale which

This book takes me to an emotional roller coaster ride as I read between the lines. One of my favourite is Night Song At Amalfi by Sara Teasdale which sheds light upon the state where words ceases to make sense and silence prevails. The Prayer by Percy B Shelly speaks about the times when in despair the very same love seems to slumber on. The author has articulated all the emotions through these poems and handpicked the best for her readers for a lavish read.

On this note I would like to say, we all have our own stories, and our definition of love, so each and every person would have something to relate to with these poems.

A really beautiful collection of love poems!

Normally I am not that into love poems as they are often too cheesy for me but right at the beginning love is compared to a river with the amazing and intense sides of it, but then follows (sometimes) an ocean of pain. I love the fact that both sides of love are mentioned directly in this wonderful metaphor.

In this book you have many beautiful different short poems in one. So you can either read them at once or browse through the book and read just on

Wow where to begin. First I would like to start by saying that I really enjoyed reading this book. It was composed poems by famous authors and poets. This book will put you in your feels. I haven’t read a lot of these poems and after reading this book I’m inspired to read more poetry. I highly recommend this book! It’s a perfect gift as well. Here are two of my favorite poems from the book:

“YOU left me, sweet, two legacies,—

    A legacy of love

    A Heavenly Father would content,

    Had He the offer of;

You left me boundaries of pain

    Capacious as the sea,

    Between eternity and time,

    Your consciousness and me.

    -Emily Dickinson

“I am not yours, not lost in you,

Not lost, although I long to be

Lost as a candle lit at noon,

Lost as a snowflake in the sea.

You love me, and I find you still

    A spirit beautiful and bright,

Yet I am I, who long to be

Lost as a light is lost in light.

Oh plunge me deep in love—put out

My senses, leave me deaf and blind,

Swept by the tempest of your love,

A taper in a rushing wind.

    Sara Teasdale”

"Keep love in your heart. A life without it is like a sunless garden when the flowers are dead."

    Oscar Wilde

Love can be about numerous things and ways. It's not always romantic. Sometimes it's connected to family, friends, or other people that surround us.

"I loved my love from green of Spring

    Until sere Autumn's fall;

But now that leaves are withering

How should one love at all?

    One heart's too small

    For hunger, cold, love, everything."

    Christina Rossetti

There are times that we give all of our love to people that we forget ourselves; our purpose. This causes us to break and easily fall apart. In the compilation book of poetry that I have just finished, entitled YOU left me, sweets, two legacies, you will read poems about loving someone, losing a lover, and feeling happiness or sadness about loving.

It's a good read for poetry lovers and those who want know how love is in the views of the poets. What I liked about the book was that it showed me different poems that I never knew existed, and reminded me of the ones that I know. It rekindled the lost flame that I had for poetry.

The poems, almost all of them speak the language of love, the language of heart. Some of the poems are all sweet and sentimental while many other are daunting, touch your soul:

IT ’S all I have to bring to-day,

    This, and my heart beside,

This, and my heart, and all the fields,

    And all the meadows wide.

(IT ’S all I have to bring to-day)

When I am dead and over me bright April

    Shakes out her rain-drenched hair,

Though you should lean above me broken-hearted

    I shall not care.

    (I shall not care)

They stay with you, all of them. There are a few poems that I have read before as well, but most of the poems were all new to me, a revelation. I was amazed to know I hadn’t read those wonderful verses before.

If you are looking for a sentimental collection of love poems, look no further. This is the book for you!

A beautiful collection of lovely haunting poems, this book is a treasure. The words speak to you directly, emotions are intense and pace is smooth. Page after page, there is a new gem of poetry. I had hard time deciding my favourites from the collection. Some of the poems I read a few times, and found myself fascinated by the depth the words in them contained.

This is a collection one can read again and again. Or better, you rather mark it as “currently reading”. And isn’t that a thing about poet

Even though I am not a poetry fan, I found this collection of sixty-one love poems a really nice read. Not only does the book present two sides of love, giving a full spectrum of emotions this feeling can bring, it also gathers some of the most influential poets in one place. A classic and adorable book for the heart and the bookshelf :)
