You Left me, sweets, two legacies

"love is more thicker than forget more thinner than recall more seldom than a wave is wet more frequent than to fail" (E E Cummings)Love is always kind. It is enduring. It does not bear a grudge. Love always trusts. It is never selfish. It is unbound. It is hopeful. It always defends. However, love, as we all know, is a two-sided thing; with the joy comes the pain! “The...

Reading Buried Love, make you think how abruptly a relationship could end and change a life. It does not matter if you are young or old. Love, after all, never loses its meaning.

Reading Emily Dickinson made me love her writing so much but so did Christina Rossetti and Sara Teasdale and every other poet. Once you read all fifty -one poems, you would find it hard to pick your favourite. That is how good the collection is – the author has picked best of the work of all the poets.

IN the spring I asked the daisies

    If his words were true,

    And the clever, clear-eyed daisies

[And the clever little daisies ]

    Always knew.

If I were you, I would buy this book and read a poem a day.

WHEN roses cease to bloom, dear,

    And violets are done,

    When bumble-bees in solemn flight

    Have passed beyond the sun,

And it goes on… A gem of a book, a keeper!

YOU left me, sweet, two legacies,—

    A legacy of love

    A Heavenly Father would content,

    Had He the offer of;

You left me boundaries of pain

    Capacious as the sea,

    Between eternity and time,

    Your consciousness and me.

“YOU left me, sweets, two legacies” is rumination on love, about love, and about Joy and pain associated with love. With all these brilliant poems popping in and out of my Ereader's pages, is there anyone as good as all these nineteenth century’s poets: Shelley, Dickinson, John Clare, T

“YOU left me, sweets, two legacies” is rumination on love, about love, and about Joy and pain associated with love. With all these brilliant poems popping in and out of my Ereader's pages, is there anyone as good as all these nineteenth century’s poets: Shelley, Dickinson, John Clare, Teasdale, Rossetti (Christina), Browning, Cummings, and many more, when it comes to writing love poems?

I loved you first: but afterwards your love

Outsoaring mine, sang such a loftier song

As drowned the friendly cooings of my dove.

    And there is more:

it may not always be so; and i say

that if your lips, which i have loved, should touch

another’s,and your dear strong fingers clutch

his heart,as mine in time not far away

The poems, all of these, are extraordinary. The words pour out of the pages and create a vast set of emotions that burn the heart, stir the desire and anguish, and nostalgia, all at the same time.

The collection is something to be relished, to be read again and again.

And before I log off, another one of my favourites from the book:

How is it that, being gone, you fill my days,

And all the long nights are made glad by thee?

A great collection of love poems. I have read Elizabeth Browning and Emily Dickinson on many occasions but the other authors were a revelation. Each time you read these poems, you understand something else about them...the beauty of classics.

A great love poem collection- there were poems that were unfamiliar to me, and i found that to be the best part. Definitely leaves you more curious about the subject of love poems!

The book is a collection of poems emphasising on different stages of love. The author has amalgamated some of the best poetic compositions which reflect upon different shades of an immensely rich sentiment. I am an ardent poetry admirer so this is a perfect encapsulation of some of the best verses which has enabled me to develop a deep connection. This book takes me to an emotional roller coaster ride as I read between the lines. One of my favourite is Night Song At Amalfi by Sara Teasdale which

This book takes me to an emotional roller coaster ride as I read between the lines. One of my favourite is Night Song At Amalfi by Sara Teasdale which sheds light upon the state where words ceases to make sense and silence prevails. The Prayer by Percy B Shelly speaks about the times when in despair the very same love seems to slumber on. The author has articulated all the emotions through these poems and handpicked the best for her readers for a lavish read.

On this note I would like to say, we all have our own stories, and our definition of love, so each and every person would have something to relate to with these poems.

"Whereas the joy in love comes as a swift flowing river, pain when arrives is always more intense, more unbearable, and sharper - the river of joy comes first and then follows the vast ocean of pain. The pain with time diminishes to a ghost, but when it is there, it is one great suffering - greater than the joy love brings. The Poets, by the very necessity of their vocation, are the closest students of language in any literature. They are the most exacting in their demands upon the resources of words, and the most careful of discriminations in their use. Famous poets of all the times, from all around the world have used poetry to explore this powerful emotion of love. In YOU left me, sweets, two legacies, I have included poems that deal with both sides of love.”

I really liked this collection! While I have read a few of these poems, there are many I have never read before. There are two things I enjoy when it comes to poetry: 1. Classics that are done well, 2. Classic poetry on the subject of love. This collection certainly has both of these things! From Shakespeare to Cummings, Dickinson to Shelley, there is plenty here to wet the appetite of both the most discerning poetry readers and those unfamiliar with classic poems.

My only negative point was the occasional grammar mistake; other than that I absolutely loved this anthology! I will definitely dive back into it again later on, and I highly recommend this to anyone who has an interest in beautiful poetry.

A really beautiful collection of love poems!

Normally I am not that into love poems as they are often too cheesy for me but right at the beginning love is compared to a river with the amazing and intense sides of it, but then follows (sometimes) an ocean of pain. I love the fact that both sides of love are mentioned directly in this wonderful metaphor.

In this book you have many beautiful different short poems in one. So you can either read them at once or browse through the book and read just on
