I'm new to this author, so when I read

    (I haven't had a chance to read

yet), I admit I wasn't all that impressed. But the blurb for this one had me intrigued, and I'm glad I didn't disregard it. Compared to the first novel of the series,

seemed more thought-out, well-written, and action-packed -- not to mention the chemistry between Jack and Saskia was hotter (I kind of loved how she called him her "big Irish bull").

I'll say right now that with the intrigue, the great action scenes, and the back-and-forth with the two main characters, I couldn't go to sleep last night until I'd finished

(plus the opening scene with Jack getting duped time and time again by Saskia was pretty damn funny to me). I know I should probably stop comparing this novel to the first one, but I'd like to also note that I enjoyed the ending much more this time around.

was a very enjoyable installment in the

series with a gentleman hero and the heroine who leads him to rethink where his life is headed.

Jack Angelo is having an off day when he arrives in Finland for his assignment with the Elite Crimes Unit. First his wallet and passport are stolen by a pregnant woman, then he’s seduced by the desk clerk at his hotel who leaves his passport behind, and finally while casing a bank another woman inserts herself during his run. Imagine his surprise to discover all of these women are the same woman and his contact. Saskia Petrovik doesn’t see anything wrong with having a bit of fun as she watches the new recruit prep for his assignment, but soon Saskia and Jack are in deeper than either of them bargained for and they’ll have to decide what really matters.

Saskia AKA “The Chameleon” has the ability to change her looks and mannerisms to become another person. In addition to her ability to alter her appearance, Saskia is also a skilled safecracker. As a child, she learned to pick locks from her parents and then after being left in her grandmother’s care she developed an appreciation for the use of costumes. Saskia has come to appreciate working for the ECU as it allows her to continue doing what she loves and she has even considered remaining with the ECU after her time is up.

Jack considers family to be the most important thing in the world and is willing to put them before everything else in his life. His loyalty to his family has now put him directly at odds with the rules of the ECU and he’s forced to make a difficult decision. Known as Gentleman Jack due to his polite and apologetic disposition as he’s beating information out of people, Jack actually dislikes hurting people but doesn’t believe he has any other skills to fall back on.

Saskia and Jack’s relationship got off to an interesting start after Saskia fooled him several times, but while Jack is initially annoyed at Saskia, he does come to appreciate her abilities. The two are attracted to each other right away and things get incredibly steamy fairly quickly. The physical scenes were very enjoyable as they’re well done and the characters have amazing chemistry. I liked that Saskia and Jack didn’t rush into the ‘I love yous’ right away and instead chose to take the time to figure things out. That’s something you don’t see too often in romantic suspense but was a nice change.

    In

we meet a few new characters in the ECU as the support team in this book is different than in the previous ones. The author does a good job with the side characters and they’re well fleshed out even if they only appear in a few scenes. The assignment/case the characters are working is an intriguing one and kept my interest throughout the book. I mean who wouldn’t enjoy learning about a group of bank robbers who don’t actually steal anything from the banks they break into?

    Overall,

was a fun action-packed read and I definitely recommend this series if you’re looking for some fun, quick reads. I’m hoping this isn’t the last of this series as I’d love to see more books in the future, possibly including one about a hacker.

Jack Angelo is clearly off his game. First his wallet gets lifted—by a pregnant woman, no less—on the ferry to Finland. At his hotel, he’s seduced by a sexy redhead who takes him for a ride, too. And when he finally starts casing the bank he’s supposed to rob, yet another female fouls things up. All he wants is to complete this assignment for the ECU to save himself and his family. Little does he know that the women who keep interfering are actually one woman—who’s about to show him just how outmatched he really is . . .

Known as “The Chameleon” Saskia Petrovik is a mistress of disguise tasked with watching the new recruit as he meets up with his high-level crew of thieves. She has no problem getting under the covers to pull off an undercover job—especially with the man known as Gentleman Jack. But multiple identities can cause multiple problems, and in these dangerous circles, the temptation to show her true self could change a deceptive affair into a deadly one .

Its amazing how many costumes Sass uses and gets away with. Its clear who the 'chameleon' is in the first few chapters. Such a well written book, it makes one wonder if there really is a ECU?!!? 4 stars.

I love a romance that is set away from North America, so with this being set in London and Helsinki, it intrigued me. Jack was a fun hero, he hates to fly so takes the ferry to Finland in the winter instead of taking a quick flight. Sasha was very strong as his heroine. I laughed when they were meeting, except Jack had no idea she was the same person at first.

I can say I tried again but something about this series just doesn't work for me. The characters once again fell flat and I found it difficult as a reader to connect with the different characters. The story started off well spaced but soon started to slowly down almost dragging readers along until they either give up or keep reading until the end. As a reader the ending wasn't an ending the story just stopped without not giving readers any satisfaction.

What an intriguing book! Jack Angelo was recruited from a jail cell to work for the Elite Crimes Unit (ECU), and he was on a job where he met Saskia. There are so many twists and things you don't expect in this book so you are constantly wondering what is going to happen next!

I don't want to give away any secrets so I will be careful what I say about Jack and Saskia while they are working on the crew of bank robbers. Jack has to worry about his brother who is being held for ransom while trying to find out what the thieves are planning.

While Jack and Saskia feel an attraction for each other, they both have other responsibilities that they don't feel like they can ignore. There is non-stop action and lots of intrigue, romance, and betrayal. The only thing that I did not like was there was no explanation of who pretended to be Jack and took his money. Loved the ending!

I have not read the other books in this series but I liked this one enough that I want to read the previous two books and hope there will be more after this one.

The Chameleon is the third book set in Michele Hauf's Elite Crime Unit (ECU) which is basically about criminals who are given a second chance by serving the unit. In The Chameleon, the agent is Jack Angelo, who is on assignment for the ECU but is also contemplating trying to get out despite the consequences all because of family. He meets Saskia in three separate occasions not realizing she is the same person (hence the title). As he tries to complete his assignment at the same time trying to ditch the ECU, he starts falling for the ever elusive but sexy Saskia but he doesn't know whether she is friend or foe or more dangerously he is starting not to care. The Chameleon is fast paced, quite funny especially when Jack keeps getting fooled by Saskia but its also action filled and full of suspenseful mystery and definitely very sexy. It is definitely a page turner and will definitely make you addicted to the series.

Jack knows he just needs to do this job and then he can disappear for good and everything has to go well as he needs this money to get his brother out of trouble again. Jack will be the muscle on this job and all he needs to do is get them all away when the job is done. But Saskia has started noticing things about him and he can't have that but he just can't seem to figure her out. They have start focusing on the job or they are going to themselves caught but Saskia knows that something is very wrong with this new job why are they going to take nothing again and when her boss asks her to get some poison warning bells start ringing but she just doesn't know who the target is. Does she trust Jack enough to let him help but she knows that he will find out that she has been on his tail all this time and there will be no escape for him? Will they actually leave all the lies and games behind or will they have to walk away from what can be? A great fast paced read. Saskia is a powerful character that is very vulnerable at times and I think that Jack isn't always as tough as he wants everyone to see him. Really enjoyed it. Thanks to Netgalley & the publishing house for letting me read it in exchange for my honest review.

This is a great book with a wonderful story and well developed characters. The story flowed very well and was very enjoyable. This book will keep you reading long into the night and you will not want to put this book down until you finish. This was such a great read and full of surprises. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader’s copy of this book. The free book held no determination on my personal review.
