While this mystery wasn't as engaging as the first three it was still a delight, and included some important character development for Goldie. I would be very happy to see this comic adapted as a tv show in the same vein as Veronica Mars, but set in the '50s with a lot more diversity. I love the diversity in this comic. Strong women of all colors, shapes, and sizes are depicted with humanity and respect. I look forward to the next story arc.

I think I'm done with this series. Hope Larsons work is all very glossy but very empty and I appreciate that her characters are diverse but it's not enough.

This series continues to be a light in my life. I will never tire of the art aesthetic.

And can I take a minute to remark on how well written Goldie’s relationship to her partner is? It’s completely normal, and unremarkable. Which is . . . remarkable. You get it.

Now this is back to the fun

I know. Much more action throughout and as always, excellent artwork. I'm looking forward to Volume 4. 💖

Sugar has hired Goldie to find out who is trying to sabotage her P1 car. This was head and shoulders better than vol 2, which I enjoyed, but this is a straight mystery and it is kickass. I love Goldie and Diane, I love Cher, and I love how Sugar was given some really great backstory and characterization in this. She made an excecllent side-kick, ha. Fantastic adventure, great plotting, gorgeous art, love love love.

Even the mean characters get a fully-realized background and emotional growth! There's so many layers to this arc that I enjoyed the heck out of, Goldie and Sugar's tenuous friendship, the side-eyeing of men underestimating women's capabilities, Diane's cool clothes (serious crush on her) all with a veneer of Happy Days-like, aw-shucks wholesomeness that some how manages to be fresh and modern. Loving this series more and more.

Such cool, strong female characters in Goldie Vance starting with Goldie, girl detective. In this volume Goldie had been enlisted by her arch rival Sugar Maple to uncover who's been sabotaging Sugar's P1 race car. Sugar has an all-woman pit crew, the recurring female FBI agent gets involved and the supportive brainiac Cheryl from work does some library-level research hat produces some excellent leads. And then there's Goldie's girlfriend Diane, described by Sugar as "nobody's sidekick." Then Sug

Then Sugar delivers one of the best lines I've read in any book to-date, "She wears lipstick like she invented it and she doesn't let anyone tell her how to wear her hair." All of this for the 1960s is pretty rad!!

After a shaky Volume 2, we're back to mystery awesomeness.
